Paris High School Class of 1960 Reunion
October 3, 2015
The Paris High School Class of 1960 celebrated its 55th reunion October 3, 2015. Sixty-three classmates, spouses, and friends met to reminisce about the good old days at PHS.
The group enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch at Cozy Cappucino where they renewed old friendships and recalled the simple joys of growing up during the 1950s in the small town atmosphere of Paris.
The reunion continued in the evening with a country dinner at the Paris Golf and Country Club. There were many elementary and PHS photographs and other memorabilia to help bring back memories of their school days. Of special interest were copies the May 15, 1960 edition of The Paris News featuring individual pictures of the 172 graduating seniors. The article stated that the 1960 class was the first to hold commencement exercises at Noyes Stadium.
Unfortunately, thirteen beloved classmates passed away since the 50th reunion in 2010. To honor these friends, a Memory Table displayed their names, pictures, and obituaries. They will all be missed, but they will not be forgotten.
In addition to the group photo, photos of alumni from each of the six Paris elementary schools (plus Roxton) were made. Fourth Ward won “the prize” for having the most alumni present. Several class members commented that many of their friendships began in the neighborhood elementary schools and far preceded PHS days.
The reunion was planned by Mary M. Dempsey Tarter, Pat Jessee, Jan Joplin Seiler, John Gabbert, Bill White, Robbie Peek George, and Anne Lehnhoff Silver. A Saturday morning golf game at PG&CC was organized by Butch and Juan Smith.
The memorable day passed too quickly, but many photos were made of the activities and can be viewed on the class website (www.phsclass1960.org) designed and maintained by Charles Allen.
